Wow - what an experience. After a great few days in Phoenix, we headed down to the Eastern Shore for a weekend with Shelly, Rick, Grace and Trey. It was A's first trip over the Bay Bridge and I was super excited. We stopped at the inlet to stroll the boardwalk and people watch and then headed to Seacrets for dirty bananas and live music. The normalness of the weekend ended there.
It was so good to see everyone! We walked into King Kone and were greeted by smiling faces. Grace is so sweet and smart - she pointed out to me that the clock was actually a compass during story time before bed on Friday night. We had the kiddos from about 6:30 pm Friday until 6 pm Sunday night and were so exhausted and in such uncharted territory. It was extremely eye opening, hilarious, frustrating and rewarding all in one. We tried to get out of the house for an outing Saturday mid-day and couldn't actually get everyone together and fed, awake and packed up until that evening. Oi vey! How in the world to parents function properly on a regular basis? Saturday was so exhausting that we could barely move that night and when Trey woke up crying, we brought him down on the couch with us and the 3 of us promptly passed out. There was actually 15 minutes of time on Sunday afternoon when both kids were asleep at the same time - and I could not believe it. It was like we had climbed the highest mountain, finished the marathon - ah victory!
All in all, I feel that we did a great job and as Andrew said the kids were alive at the end of it so we must have received an A...we managed to take them to the boardwalk, park, beach and maybe even a bar or two were we could consume adult beverages while trying to keep everyone occupied and happy and dry. Hats off to all of those that are raising kids! What a tremendous and important accomplishment.
